The Ultimate (Senior) Year from the Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences

The Clinical Year Program can also be available to qualified applicants who satisfy the pre-requisites, for example publish-baccalaureate students and guest students from affiliated colleges/universities (see Guest Student Senior Clinical Year Program).

For admissions needs towards the Clinical Year Program make reference to Admissions & Applications.

The Clinical Year is composed of…

47 credits and it is split into two distinct sections:

The Practicum Portion from the Clinical Year may be the culmination of the Medical Laboratory Scientist’s undergraduate training. It includes practical hands-on experience where students work alongside with practicing laboratory professionals in patient healthcare at our affiliate hospitals or clinical laboratory sites, located over the U . s . States (begin to see the listing of affiliated Clinical Sites below). As this is a learning and credit earning experience, regular tuition arrives throughout the practicum.

  • The practicum area of the Clinical Year follows the preparatory didactic portion and it is 16 days lengthy.

  • Typically starts at the outset of April and ends the final Friday of This summer.

A really attractive feature in our Clinical Year Program would be that the clinical site assignments are guaranteed for college students who complete the didactic area of the Program satisfactorily and satisfy the advancement criteria.

Clinical assignments are usually produced in December, in the finish from the Fall Semester

Students rank clinical site preferences on the preference selection form supplied by the MLS Department when the affiliated clinical sites indicate whether they’ll be accepting students.

Although students aren’t guaranteed their first choice, consideration is offered to every student’s preferences and granted whenever achievable.

Assignments also rely on recommendations through the faculty and also the educational coordinators from the clinical affiliates.

Note: that does not all clinical affiliates accept students every year.

Upon effective completing the didactic and practicum area of the Clinical Year Program, students are qualified to create the U . s . States national professional certification exam to be able to act as an authorized medical laboratory researcher.

The certification exam is provided through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Note: Some states need a separate license to be able to practice like a Medical Laboratory Researcher.
