Like a former U.S. Secretary of Commerce and, just before that, the Chief executive officer of the Fortune 500 company, I understand first-hands simply how much the choices that you’ll make, and also the agenda you pursue, will impact America’s entrepreneurs and innovators. There’s an abundance of pressing issues facing our nation – from tax policy to immigration to infrastructure – which matter tremendously towards the world of business.

Our nation’s founders enshrined these fundamental property legal rights within our Metabolic rate – Article 1, Section 8. They acutely understood the function of patents, copyright, trademarks, and trade secrets in driving innovation, creativeness, and entrepreneurship. And we’re fortunate they did. By providing the opportunity of coming back on investments of your time, sources, creativeness, and development and research, IP legal rights happen to be absolutely important to making our economy probably the most dynamic and innovative the earth has seen.

Today, greater than 40 million Americans have jobs in diverse IP-intensive industries varying from scientific research to fashion to film and music to technology. These industries also generate over two-thirds in our GDP and nearly three-quarters of U.S. exports. These products of those industries – in the latest movie to a different existence-saving medicine – enrich and improve the caliber of our way of life.
